Travel Health
Student Health and Well-Being Primary Care offers consultations to prepare international travelers with the information, immunizations and medications needed to help ensure an enjoyable and safe trip. During your consultation our providers will discuss:
- Routine and recommended immunizations, most of which are available in-clinic
- Currently, immunizations for yellow fever and Japanese encephalitis must be obtained at a nearby pharmacy.
- Instructions on how to manage food and water when traveling
- Information on how to prevent malaria and other insect-borne diseases
- Prescriptions for malaria prophylaxis and traveler’s diarrhea as needed
- Additional information on international travel resources, travel supplies and equipment, and insurance information for travel
- Discussions about HIV risk, safe sex, and pregnancy prevention
- Additional resources including information available through the CDC travel website
These visits are offered in-person at all three clinic locations and by telemedicine in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. There is no charge associated with the consultation visit. Students/learners with the school-sponsored insurance plan will be able to obtain their immunizations in clinic at no cost.
Recommendations for Scheduling an Appointment
- Appointments should be scheduled at least 4-6 weeks prior to your departure in order to allow time for labs and vaccines as needed.
- Be sure to specify your destination(s) and the nature of your travel – leisure, clinical work with people or animals, in rural environments, etc.
- Make sure all of your vaccine records have been updated in the myHealth portal prior to your visit.
