He/Him/His

Matthew joined Johns Hopkins University in Summer 2025.  He has worked for over 10 years in college and university mental health centers and wholeheartedly enjoys working with undergraduate and graduate students on their academic journeys. He has an integrative theoretical background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Reality Therapy/Choice Theory, and Person-Centered Therapy. He has an affinity for men’s issues, mood disorders, anxiety concerns, sleep issues, personal identity matters (including gender & sexuality), and trauma treatment and is happy to work with any student seeking change.

In his current role at Mental Health Services, Matthew is coordinator for the Chat with a Counselor program, a type of outreach available to all JHU students and learners that aims to break down barriers to seeking mental health support. Chat with a Counselor offers students and learners an informal and confidential one-on-one meeting with an MHS clinician to discuss concerns, explore solutions, and connect with resources for more support. Matthew also provides individual therapy, group therapy, and workshops at MHS.

Two things Matthew especially enjoys about the work he does:

  • Being a resource for students and learners during an amazing time in their life, filled with growth, change, and transition.
  • Participating with students in the natural ebb and flow of the academic year as the seasons shift, the semesters begin and end, the level of work rises and falls, and the pace of life changes naturally.
