He/him

Gabriel Martinez is a licensed professional counselor and serves as the liaison to BIPOC students.  As a clinician with Mental Health Services, Gabe provides a full range of clinical services including initial consultations, individual goal-directed therapy, and crisis intervention. He works collaboratively within the MHS outreach team, as well as with students, student organizations and offices across the university to develop relationships, programs and services designed to best meet the needs of the university’s BIPOC student population.

At the core of Gabe’s approach to therapy is a humanistic value that honors the individual person and the whole of their life experience within the larger global system. His focus is to help people build awareness of their needs and how to effectively weigh decisions that motivate action. Gabe relies on training in systems theory, existential therapy, relational therapy, ecotherapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy to guide his work with clients.

Two things Gabe enjoys about his work:

  • Learning about students’ stories, supporting them in increasing awareness of their unique strengths, and supporting them in developing skills to live well rounded lives beyond academics.
  • Connecting students to community.
