ADHD Treatment

ADHD Medication Management Policy

If you have never been prescribed ADHD medications or have not had an active prescription in the past 12 months, you should make an appointment for an Initial Consultation (IC) at Student Health & Well-Being Mental Health Services (SHWB MHS).

If you are currently taking ADHD medication or have done so within the past 12 months, please read and sign, then share the Release of Information letter with your current prescriber and have them send us the requested documentation, so that we may review it. Your provider can either fax the documentation to our office or you can upload the documentation to the MyHealth Portal.

Upon our receipt of your complete medical documentation, a provider will review the documents.  Please allow 7-10 business days for this review AFTER we have received all documentation from your provider. We will not contact your provider(s) to obtain the documentation, it is your responsibility to make sure we have everything that is requested.

If your clinical documentation supports the need for a ADHD medication prescription, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment for medication refills at SHWB Primary Care or Mental Health Services. In order to receive prescribing services from a SHWB provider, you must sign documentation of understanding your role in safeguarding medicine and the expectations around your treatment.

If the provider review indicates that more information is needed, you will be contacted to schedule an Initial Consultation at SHWB Mental Health Services to determine how best to treat you.

If you have a condition that may require academic accommodations, we recommend you initiate a relationship with Student Disability Services (SDS) to discuss your options prior to starting your program. If you experience a challenge that impacts your ability to engage in your program, you are encouraged to communicate with your academic advisor and Student Disability Services (SDS) to determine the best course of action. Students who have used academic accommodation in the past or may need them at Hopkins can get information about the process of requesting accommodations and begin the process by completing the SDS Application online.

Matriculating students that have a JHED ID can submit medical documentation for review prior to arrival on campus. However, please note that students cannot make appointments at our clinics or receive prescriptions until the semester begins and they are eligible for services.

Psychoeducational Assessment for ADHD

IDENTIFYING ACCOMMODATIONS AND SUPPORTS TO IMPROVE ACADEMIC OUTCOMES

School can be stressful! Especially if you feel that you are not being academically successful.

MHS’s Assessment, Occupational Therapy, and Neurodiversity Services (AON) team offers a range of psychoeducational assessments aimed to support students who are currently experiencing academic challenges, such as academic probation, accommodations that are no longer working, or grades that have declined.

The goals of our evaluation are to describe cognitive strengths and weaknesses, offer suggestions, make recommendations for accommodations and services, and connect you with supports.

IS TESTING AT AON RIGHT FOR ME?

Are you struggling academically and think you have a disability?

Do you need updated testing accommodations for standardized testing?

Do you have accommodations but they are not working?

Are you able to devote 10 or more hours to the assessment process over a week or two?

HOW DO YOU GET AN APPOINTMENT WITH AN AON PROVIDER?

If you are not currently an MHS client, please make an appointment for an Initial Consultation (IC) at Student Health & Well-Being Mental Health Services (SHWB MHS).

If you already see an MHS provider, please ask them if they think an AON referral is right for you.
