Xiaoye “Sherry” Zhang
Coordinator for Gender Violence Prevention, Education, and Response
Sherry Zhang serves as the Coordinator for Gender Violence Prevention and Response at Johns Hopkins University Health Promotion and Well-Being Department. Sherry’s work focuses on student support, and she is a confidential resource for all students and trainees. She speaks Mandarin Chinese and English, offering services in both languages. She provides trauma-informed and culturally sensitive support to students who have experienced or are interested in learning more about gender-based violence. Additionally, she sits on the Sexual Violence Advisory Committee to the Provost (SVAC).
Sherry holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and a dual bachelor’s degree in Psychology & Media and Cinema Studies from the University of Illinois. Before joining Johns Hopkins University, Sherry served as a Wellness Fellow at the Family Center at UPenn and as a Restorative Practitioner at UPenn. During her graduate school field practicum, she worked as a case manager for refugees and as a psychotherapist with the diverse Philadelphia community. Originally from China, she was an international student for five years and later founded I-Planet International Center, a non-profit in Philadelphia dedicated to promoting the well-being of international students, advocating for their rights and needs.
