April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year’s events focus on digital safety, heathy relationships, resources for survivors, and healing through creating. Check our full month of events.

Event: World Health Day at Peabody
Date: Monday April 7, 2025
Time: 12:00pm – 1:00pm

Details: The fair is an opportunity for our students to engage and receive resources on JHU’s eight dimensions of well-being. Students will receive a World Health Day Passport upon check-in at the Student Affairs table. It will allow them to see the offices and resources present for each area. Students who return a passport that has a stamp for each area will be entered into a raffle for a prize. Look for Health Promotion & Well-Being to learn about sexual health and healthy relationships. 


Event: Sex in the Dark
Date: Monday April 7, 2025

Details: Join Mental Health Services, Health Promotion & Well-Being, Primary Care, and the School of Medicine/Center for Marital & Sexual Health for Sex in the Dark. Participants can anonymously ask a panel of sex-perts questions about sex, sexuality, or relationships, or simply listen and learn. Glow gear, door prizes, and giveaways will be available to all who attend. To aid anonymity, this event will be held in a dimly lit room to encourage participants to courageously ask questions. 


Event: Exploring Sexual Health Slang
Date: Friday April 11, 2025

Details: The Violet Project and Health Promotion & Well-Being are hosting an activity for students to discuss the terminology we use to describe sex, sexuality, and sexual health. Chat with us about sexual health and well-being at JHU and enter to win some great raffle prizes. Both university offices and community-based resources will be in attendance to share information and giveaways.

Event: Abuse Goes Digital: Guidance for Healthcare Professionals (An EndTAB Workshop with Lunch)

Details:  This focused session explores the dual importance of digital safety for healthcare professionals, both for personal well-being and professional practice. We’ll examine how technology-facilitated abuse intersects with public health and patient care, while providing practical strategies for maintaining digital boundaries in professional settings. This session was created with School of Nursing, School of Medicine, and School of Public Health students in mind. Lunch is provided. Key areas include: 

    • Understanding tech-enabled abuse as a public health concern
    • How to center the digital safety of a victim alongside their physical safety
    • Recognizing signs of digital abuse in patient care settings
    • Implementing trauma-informed approaches to technology safety
    • Strategies for supporting patients experiencing tech-facilitated abuse

Event: Thriving Online: A Discussion about Online Scams, Privacy and Safety (An EndTAB Workshop)

Details: This specialized session addresses the unique digital safety challenges faced by international graduate students in the U.S. Through practical examples and cultural context, we’ll explore common scenarios and provide actionable strategies for staying safe online while studying abroad. This session was created with international students in mind, but is open to all graduate students. Snacks will be provided. All participants will be entered to win a Squishmallow. Topics include:

  • Identifying common and emerging online scams
  • Navigating dating apps and relationships in a new cultural context
  • Understanding U.S.-specific digital privacy rights and protections
  • Managing long-distance relationships and family connections safely
  • Practical tips for maintaining privacy and safety online and offline

Event: New Challenges Impacting Digital Safety: What Every Student Should Know (An EndTAB Workshop with Dinner)

Details: In this engaging session designed for student advocates and the broader campus community, we’ll explore how to recognize and respond to emerging digital safety challenges affecting college students today. From dating apps to AI chatbot companions, we’ll break down how to protect yourself and support your peers when navigating online spaces. This session was created with undergraduate students in mind. Dinner will be provided. Discussion topics include:

  • Understanding modern digital safety risks, including AI-generated content and facial recognition stalking
  • Practical strategies for responding to common challenges like privacy violations, nonconsensual tracking and unauthorized account access
  • Building a culture of digital consent and respect on campus
  • Resources and tools for staying safe in online spaces

Event: Know Your Rights on Gender-Based Violence: A Panel Discussion with Dinner for International Students

Details: Join us for a Denim Day panel discussion to learn about your rights, the reporting process, and available support for gender-based violence. This event is designed to help international students better understand protections and resources available to them, but is open for everyone. Topics will include: 

  • What is Gender-Based Violence (GBV)? Defining stalking, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and intimate partner violence. 
  • Understanding Title IX: How it applies to students and the protections it offers. 
  • Reporting Process: Steps for reporting incidents and what to expect. 
  • Accessing Support: Campus and community resources available to students. 
  • U/T Visas: Potential options for international students impacted by GBV.

Panelists will include representatives from the Office of Institutional Equity, Gender-Based Violence Prevention, and other campus offices. Dinner will be provided.


Event: BIT Recruitment Launch

Details: The gender-based violence prevention team is recruiting students to apply to be Bystander Intervention Trainers for the 2025-2026 academic year. We are looking for undergraduate student leaders who are passionate about preventing and interrupting all forms of gender-based violence. This is a paid part-time position. All undergraduate students are welcome and encouraged to apply using this form to apply.


Event: Meet the Gender-Based Violence Prevention Team in DC

Details: Stop by the DC campus breezeway to meet some of the Gender-Based Violence Prevention, Education, and Response Team. Confidential staff will be on site to provide resources, information, and support to students looking to learn more about our programs, campaigns, and events.
