April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This April, we are focusing on sexual assault and gender-based violence prevention; consent and healthy relationships; supporting survivors; and promoting healing. Check out our planned events and workshops below.

All events and workshops are free, but please RSVP using the links below, where applicable, with your Hopkins email so we can send you the meeting info.

Event: Red Flag/Green Flag (BSPH)
Date: 4/3/23

Details: What behavior should you avoid? What behavior should you seek out? Learn how to navigate all of your close relationships and common behaviors you engage with to build healthier relationships.

Event: Healthy Relationships AMA

Details: Hosted by Gender and Sexuality Resources and the Gender-Based Violence Prevention teams, join us to discuss ways to incorporate healthy behaviors in all of your relationships (romantic, platonic, sexual, friendships, and any others). The event will focus on all relationships and will be inclusive of relationships held by folks in LGBTQ+ communities. Chance to win a raffle prize at this event!

Details: Come learn about a variety of healthy skills including for sexual, physical, relationship, mental, and emotional health. We’ll have giveaways, games, and a lot of fun! Chance to win a raffle prize at this event!

Event: Red, Yellow, and Green Flags Installation
Date: 4/10/23
Location: Homewood Quads
Details: Keep an eye out on Homewood quads for flags depicting healthy, unhealthy, and abusive behaviors in relationships. Chance to win a raffle prize at this event!

Event: Yoga for Healing (Homewood)
Date: 4/10/23
Time: 5:00pm –6:00pm
Location: Multipurpose Room B, Ralph S. O’Connor Center for Recreation and Well-Being
Details: This yoga practice will be a 1-hr. session with the aim of promoting the benefits of yoga and creating a space for everyone to engage in self-healing practices. All equipment is provided, and no prior experience required; you do not need to have an O’Connor Rec Center membership to attend. Each participant will get a free fidget toy and sensory sticker. Participants will also have the chance to enter a raffle for a yoga bolster, blanket, and trauma-informed yoga card deck. All JHU students and trainees are welcome to attend.

Event: De-stress and Origami at Carey

Event: Bystander Skills Tabling (SON)

Details: Have you ever seen something that bothers you but you aren’t sure what to do or say? Have you heard of something happening to someone and aren’t sure what you could do to help? We’ll be doing a crash course on bystander intervention skills before, during, and after it happens.

Event: Yoga for Healing (East Baltimore)

Location: Cooley Center
Details: Enjoy the benefits of yoga with the additional practice of fostering safety and healing. Open to all students and learners. No registration required.

Event: Body Mapping
Date: 4/17/23
Time: 6:00pm- 7:00pm
Location: Ralph S. O’Connor Center for Recreation and Well-Being, Meeting Room A
Details: Health Promotion staff will guide participants in mapping their unique pleasure zones through curious self-exploration. The workshop will include self-assessments, open-ended questions for participants to reflect on, and goal setting. Through the process of body mapping, participants will be able to increase connection to self, love or acceptance of their bodies, and attunement to their needs. Participants will have a chance to win a trauma-informed yoga deck and an affirmation mug. All participants will be offered sensory stickers, fidget toys, and journals. Details: Co-sponsored by the Gertrude Stein Society (GSS), learn about the basics of trauma informed care and applying it to your direct practice with patients. Open to all LGBTQ+ students and learners on the East Baltimore Campus.

Event: Origami Installation Kickoff

Details: Students and staff will work together to install a display of origami collected over SAAM and imprinted with stories, words of healing, throughs of support, and messages of hope for and by survivors of gender based violence and allies of survivors. Event: Healing Honestly Keynote and Luncheon with Alisa Zipursky

Details: Author and creator of Healing Honestly, Alisa Zipursky joins JHU for a keynote focused on healing from trauma and vicarious trauma, specifically for those in or training to be in helping roles. This session may be particularly useful for folks in the Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health Schools. 10 attendees will be randomly selected to win a healing basket featuring journaling materials, self care items, and Alisa Zipursky’s book!
