Spring break travel testing requirements

Note: this letter originally appeared as an email sent to Homewood and Peabody undergraduates on March 9, 2022.

Dear Students:

We hope you are enjoying a successful spring semester and taking advantage of the warmer weather. We are pleased that COVID numbers within our community continue to remain low, thanks in large part to your continued diligence in adhering to safety requirements.

As spring break approaches, we know many of you may be planning to travel outside the Greater Baltimore area. If you are planning to travel, please carefully review the following measures. We are implementing additional testing requirements to help us monitor any potential spread of COVID.

If you are traveling over spring break:

• Register your travel plans in the Prodensity app as soon as possible. This will exempt you from on-campus testing while you are away (students who remain on campus are required to test as usual).
• Residential students are required to use home test kits to test yourself before you return to campus and again as soon as you arrive back on campus. Even if you are currently in the 90-day exemption period for PCR testing, you are required to use the antigen home test. We strongly encourage off-campus students to use them as well to continue to help protect the Hopkins community and our neighbors.
• If you test positive on either test, you must complete the Student Health and Wellness Center’s online form. You are not required to report a negative result.
• Students may pick up a rapid at-home COVID test kit (containing two tests) from the Shriver Hall or Peabody asymptomatic test sites prior to spring break (Monday–Friday, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.). Note that you must pick up your own test and bring your student ID; you cannot pick up a test for friends/roommates.
• When you return to Baltimore, test again through the standard testing sites on either Monday or Tuesday of the week following spring break (March 28 or 29). Prodensity passes will turn green once you are tested.

If you are not traveling over spring break, follow the normal testing requirements.

Whether you plan to travel during the break or remain in the Baltimore area, we remind you to be diligent about following COVID guidelines, monitoring yourself for symptoms, and staying home if you are sick. Should you travel outside the U.S., you are required to show a negative test before flying back to the U.S., per CDC requirements.
