The office of Women and Gender Resources supports and advises students on all matters related to gender equity and the advancement of our women students. The Ralph S. O'Connor Center for Recreation and Well-Being provides opportunities for physical and mental growth as well as social interaction in healthy surroundings. The rec center’s membership fee is included in tuition for all current, full-time undergraduate and graduate students in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, the Whiting School of Engineering, and the Peabody Institute.
Experiential Education encompasses the Outdoor Pursuits and the Johns Hopkins Outdoors Club programs which offer day trips in the Mid-Atlantic region including backpacking/hiking, canoeing, caving, climbing, fly fishing, mountain biking, sailing, sea kayaking, and whitewater kayaking. For first-year Homewood undergrads, we offer a weeklong outdoor pre-orientation. For undergraduates interested in becoming outdoor leaders, we offer outdoor leadership training. At the Homewood campus, you can use the indoor climbing facilities, join a kayak clinic at the pool, or rent outdoor equipment for your own adventures. Finally, we can plan specialized programming for Hopkins affiliated groups, departments, and teams. There is no experience necessary on nearly all of our trips, and equipment and transportation is included.

Religious and Spiritual Life (previously Campus Ministries) promotes and supports spiritual development, theological reflections, religious tolerance and social awareness among students, faculty, and staff within the Johns Hopkins community. It is a prophetic and pastoral presence which seeks to enhance the spiritual and ethical educational experience of the whole person mind, body, and soul.
We can assess your diet and lifestyle and provide nutritional counseling, guidance, recommendations, and/or therapy regarding well-being, weight management, heart-healthy eating, diabetes, eating disorders & disordered eating, cholesterol management, plant-based eating, and gastrointestinal disease, just to name a few. Our staff has met the academic and professional requirements of the Commission of Dietetic Registration and are board certified in dietetics. Nutritional therapy services are scheduled by referral from a SHWC provider, the Counseling Center, or can be a self-referral if seeking general information. Consultations with our registered dietitian last 30-60 minutes.

A Place To Talk (APTT) provides student-to-student peer listening for all Homewood undergraduates to discuss anything from everyday frustrations to serious concerns. Peer listeners are undergraduate students who have been trained to listen and respond without giving advice, and all visits to APTT are private.
Group counseling allows students to address their concerns through engagement with others. There are a variety of groups that meet to discuss such topics as substance abuse, dissertation stress, Black women’s empowerment, understanding self and others, LGBTQ+ student support, eating concerns, and more.

Question, Persuade and Refer are 3 simple steps everyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. In this 1-1.5 hour training, you will learn to notice the signs of suicide, practice active listening through role play, and then learn the resources for an effective referral.

Yoga postures, breathing techniques, mindful practices, and meditation will help decrease stress and anxiety, increase concentration, and improve mental, emotional and physical well-being. No prior yoga experience or special attire is necessary. Mats will be provided, or bring your own.
