Congrats on your impending (or recent) graduation from Johns Hopkins! As you end your journey as a student and begin life as an alum, we want you to continue to care for your multi-dimensional wellness.

Here are some tips to guide your transition into post-Hopkins life as it relates to university wellness resources.

Know your deadlines.

Your ability to access different Hopkins-sponsored wellness resources ends on different days.

Resources available to you through your graduation day:

  • Homewood Counseling Center (Homewood and Peabody)

Resources available to you through January 31, 2021:

  • Johns Hopkins Student Assistance Program (JHSAP; available to all schools except Homewood and Peabody).
  • Student Health and Wellness Center (Homewood and Peabody)

Resources with different end dates:

  • Calm and SilverCloud. Apart from SOM students, your JHED ID remains active until 180 days after your graduation date, so you will be able to use it to access these resources until that time. SOM students’ JHED IDs remain active for 90 days after their graduation dates. After your premium access to Calm ends when your JHED ID expires, you can still access some of Calm’s content for free or pay for premium content (which is what the Hopkins access provides). Subscription rates for Calm vary according to the plan you buy.
  • Johns Hopkins Employer Health Programs (EHP). EHP coverage end dates vary according to a person’s specific employer (Bayview versus JHH versus JHU, etc) and/or student status. Students with EHP coverage should contact their respective school’s insurance coordinator.
  • TimelyMD Mental Telehealth. Mental telehealth is available to all Hopkins students for free until May 28, 2021. After that date, users can access online telehealth appointments for $79 per session.
  • University Health Services (UHS). Because of the variety of programs and academic calendars and payment models at BSPH, SOM, and SON, the last day of service for UHS Wellness can vary widely between students. If you need to know when your UHS Wellness access will end, contact UHS directly at 410-955-3250.
  • WellFleet Student Insurance. Students enrolled in the Fall 2020 WellFleet plan are covered until February 14, 2021.

Make the most of Hopkins while you still have access.

Be proactive. Get a refill on any regular prescriptions. If you’re due for an annual physical, OB-GYN exam, or any other routine doctor visit, schedule it while you still have access to those providers. Finish your SilverCloud modules. Take some free fitness classes to explore what you like; that info can help inform your post-Hopkins exercise routine.

Talk to your current providers to set up a transition plan.

Hopkins-based providers are happy to work with you to find new providers who can help you maintain continuity of care, especially regarding the management of chronic conditions and maintenance of prescription drugs. The options available to you will vary according to personal post-grad circumstances.

If you’ve been working with a mental health provider, talk to them about your impending graduation and what steps you can take to preserve and build upon the work that you’ve done.

Consider an alumni membership to the gym.

If you’re staying in Baltimore, alumni memberships to the O’Connor Rec Center and the Cooley Center are available for a fee.

For Homewood and Peabody graduates, your O’Connor student membership will expire on the last day of December for mid-year graduations, and in May for spring graduations.

Graduates of any Hopkins school can purchase alumni memberships to O’Connor. Alumni membership costs $69 for three months, $138 for six months, $207 for nine months, or $277 for a one-year membership.

The Cooley Center allows graduating students to use its fitness facilities through August 31, free of charge (pool fees still apply). All Hopkins alumni are eligible for alumni rates at Cooley, which are $36 for one month, $206 for six months, or $400 for a one-year membership.

The pool at the Cooley Center, typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, is a separate entity. It requires all student affiliates to pay $70 for a summer pass or $8 for a day pass.

During COVID-19 closure, the Cooley Center, is offering free virtual classes and free in-person, outdoor classes (up to 10 people). Access classes by registering using this portal, and find more information at JHMIFitness.com.

No postgrad insurance coverage? Hopkins can provide guidance.

If you will not have access to health care through an employer or through a parent or guardian after your student coverage expires, Hopkins providers can offer some guidance.

Students enrolled in the WellFleet plan are covered until February 14, 2021. If, at that time, they do not have access to benefits through an employer or a parent/guardian, the SHWC Insurance Staff will assist eligible students in enrolling at Healthcare.gov or in subsidized health plans like Medicaid. In some cases, non-US citizens can enroll in these programs. In other cases, international students may need to purchase insurance coverage.

Learners are eligible for continuation of EHP Student Health Program coverage with a maximum period of 18 months following loss of coverage due to graduation or completion of degree requirements. The cost of continuation coverage is 102% of the full cost of the plan. Coverage may vary by degree program, so please consult your school’s insurance administrator.

Again, congratulations on your graduation. We hope that, as always, you will be well and do well in the next chapter of your life and beyond.
