If you are interested in learning more or getting involved, please contact <a href=\"mailto:wellbeing@jhu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wellbeing@jhu.edu<\/a> and you will be connected with the correct staff member.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bystander Intervention Training<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span class=\"s1\">The Bystander Intervention Training (BIT) program teaches students about gender-based violence, consent, and bystander intervention skills. Upon completion of BIT, students will know how to safely intervene in situations that could immediately lead to violence and how to interrupt a culture that is permissive to gender violence. Students will acquire intervention tools to use in situations that seem risky in order to become effective and active bystanders. The BIT program discusses topics including intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, harassment, survivor empathy, and consent. BIT is taught peer-to-peer in two 2.5-hour sessions to all new undergraduate student. Students must attend both sessions in full to complete BIT.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<p>A brief refresher program for undergraduates and shorter graduate BIT program is also available. <span style=\"font-size: revert;color: initial\">To request a BIT program for your group, please use our <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/r\/k2jMnRvSMS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Workshop Request form<\/a>.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I Will Listen Week<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nami.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Alliance on Mental Illness<\/a> (NAMI), <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">listening is one of the most powerful ways to support someone facing mental health challenges. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/iwilllisten.namibaltimore.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">I Will Listen<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> encourages open and honest conversations about mental health by teaching college campuses, workplaces, and other communities how to start conversations, recognize barriers, and eradicate stigma. Health Promotion &amp; Well-Being host NAMI Student Ambassadors to provide outreach, skill development and connection during early October. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Mental Health First Aid<\/h3>\n<p>Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. MHFA has been shown to increase knowledge of mental health and mental illness, reduce stigma and increase empathy toward individuals with mental health challenges, and help participants learn mental health resources. There is a total of eight hours of material, which can be offered in one day or across two half-day sessions. <span class=\"TextRun SCXW213899542 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW213899542 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\">To request <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW213899542 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\">a training for your club, organization, or department, please <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW213899542 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\">fill out the <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/pages\/responsepage.aspx?id=OPSkn-axO0eAP4b4rt8N7C1coiKiUaxOv5DwwonjynpUMEM1TFJBUERQNklISk9SODc5ODA4TFc4QS4u&amp;route=shorturl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mental Health Services form<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults (Formerly Koru)<\/h3>\n<p>Experience the possibilities that unfold through the practice of mindfulness and meditation. The workshops are a four-week series of 75-minute sessions that teach mindfulness practices that help to decrease stress and increase satisfaction in daily life. Each session is designed to help you learn mindfulness through the practice of specific skills that calm and focus your mind. If you are feeling pressured and stressed, or are interested in learning a new skill that can enrich your life, these classes are for you. The workshop series are offered several times throughout the semester. C<span data-teams=\"true\">heck <a href=\"https:\/\/jhu.campusgroups.com\/web_app?id=24480&amp;menu_id=65899&amp;if=0&amp;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hopkins Groups<\/a> for regular offerings or email Carol Spencer (<a href=\"mailto:cspenc29@jh.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cspenc29@jh.edu<\/a>) to learn more or schedule a course.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Out of the Darkness Walk<\/h3>\n<p>Community members from all JHU campuses are invited to get involved with and attend the annual Out of the Darkness Walk, sponsored by the <a href=\"https:\/\/afsp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Foundation for Suicide Prevention<\/a>. Attendees are invited to spend a morning cultivating hope with other students, faculty, and staff while moving their bodies and destigmatizing mental health concerns. In the weeks leading up to our event, there will be several related events designed to bring awareness to campus mental health resources and skill development. <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW86618004 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\">The <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW86618004 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\">Out of the Darkness Walk<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW86618004 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\"> and related events typically happen in April.\u00a0<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pet Visits<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Pet visits are easy, low commitment, and high reward for anyone having a \u201cruff\u201d week. Scheduled regularly on both East Baltimore and Homewood campuses, learners are invited to come and give our furry visitors some pets and pick up some well-being resources. Question, Persuade and Refer are three simple steps everyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. QPR is a suicide prevention program listed on SAMHSA\u2019s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (source: <a href=\"https:\/\/qprinstitute.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">QPR Institute<\/a>). It is a 1.5-hour program that is offered to JHU students, staff and faculty.
